James Roark Jacksonville Therapy FL

HI, i’M James.

I’m the owner of Jacksonville Therapy. As a therapist, I show up as my authentic self. While I deeply value my experience and theoretical orientation, I consider the trust, connection, and comfort between a client and their therapist to be just as important. My clients appreciate a therapist who is genuine, compassionate, non-judgmental, willing to offer honest feedback, comfortable using humor when appropriate, and, ultimately, human.

In my practice, I help motivated individuals and couples who are ready for change. I understand that a one-size-fits-all approach to therapy is ineffective because each individual and couple is unique. My therapeutic approach is grounded in a humanistic foundation and Judeo-Christian values. I incorporate evidence-based therapy modalities, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI).

For couples therapy I use Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Attachment Theory, and interventions informed by The Gottman Institute.

People who work with me find a genuine and relatable therapist who goes beyond just asking, “How does that make you feel?”

SPECIALTIES

Anxiety & Stress

Do you struggle with persistent worry, overthinking, perfectionism, brain fog, or feeling constantly stressed and overwhelmed? Anxiety and chronic stress can leave you feeling exhausted, on edge, and unable to fully enjoy your life. I provide tools and evidence-based support to help you manage anxiety, reduce stress, and create greater balance in your life.

COUPLES Therapy

I work with couples to strengthen their connection, restore trust, and improve communication. I use evidence-based approaches, including Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), attachment theory, and interventions informed by the Gottman Institute, to help couples understand and change the patterns keeping them stuck.

TRAUMA

Traumatic experiences can have lasting effects, contributing to anxiety, fear, depression, and even physical symptoms long after the experience itself. As a trauma-trained therapist, I use evidence-based approaches to help clients process traumatic experiences, understand how the past may be affecting the present, and move toward growth and greater well-being.

major life events

I specialize in helping clients to navigate significant life transitions, including coping with the loss of a loved one, undergoing divorce, transitioning into marriage, welcoming a new child, starting college, navigating career shifts, managing workplace conflicts, and transitioning into retirement.

INNER CHILD WORK

Inner child work explores how early experiences can shape the beliefs, emotional responses, and patterns we carry into adulthood. I help clients better understand these influences and change patterns that may no longer be serving them.

Coaching

Coaching can help you clarify your goals, identify what may be holding you back, and take meaningful steps toward the life you want. Together, we’ll develop strategies, build accountability, and focus on creating lasting personal and professional growth.
